UC Davis Chile lanza proyecto de plataforma web de hidrometría para el río Aconcagua

El Bien Público “Central de Información y Modelamiento Hídrico”, CIMHi, es un proyecto ejecutado por la Universidad de California, Davis en Chile (UC Davis Chile) y cuyos coejecutores y beneficiarios son las Primera, Segunda y Tercera secciones de las Juntas de Vigilancia (JVA) del río Aconcagua. Esta iniciativa fue impulsada por la Dirección de Aguas, DGA (mandante y oferente), y cuenta con el financiamiento de Corfo.

We talked to Lovell "Tu" Jarvis, UC Davis' Faculty Director of Global Centers for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Geoffrey Schladow, founding Director of Tahoe Environmental Research Center at UC Davis, to learn about their experience as part of Chile's Clean Lakes Board of Directors, foundation of international collaboration, that works in the preservation, sustainable development and resilience to the climate change of the lakes that are located in the north of the Chilean Patagonia.

UC Davis MBA Team Completes Global Centers Project in Chile

To spur its Global Centers strategy, UC Davis Global Affairs partnered with the Graduate School of Management (GSM) to engage a team of six part-time MBA students through the Integrated Management Project, the school’s capstone course. The team’s project involved surveying stakeholders on campus and traveling to Chile for meetings with institutions—in tandem with researching and developing a strategy for the first UC Davis Global Center within Global Affairs.

Dean of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis goes on an “academic tour” in Chile

Michael Lairmore arrived in Santiago to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Catholic University, basically to support the creation of its own school of veterinary medicine. During his busy days in the country, he also visited UC Davis Chile, met with Chilean UC Davis ex alumni and his colleagues from the University of Chile. He gave a talk in the College of Veterinary Doctors and visited the south of Chile in order to learn about its developed aquaculture.

Successful Graduation of 20 fruit farming consultants who participated in the extension course

The course - 20 hours of online classes and 50 classroom hours – had two speakers from the University of California: Mark Bell and Louise Ferguson. The initiative – from the Regional Strategic Program for Sustainable Fruit Farming- was held by UC Davis Chile and financed by the Corfo and the Regional Government of Valparaíso.

The university as a driving force for science-based entrepreneurship

After 10 years, William “Bill” Tucker, Executive Director of Innovation Access at UC Davis, returned to Chile to participate in the III USM Tech Innovation Summit, event organized by the Santa Maria University (USM), academic partner of UC Davis Chile since December 2017. The Summit which was held last 20 November is the nation’s main event on artificial intelligence, new digital trends and scalable enterprises. Doctor Tucker’s expertise lies in this latter area.

California State Legislators visited UC Davis’ center in Chile

A delegation of California State Legislators –including senator Nancy Skinner and representatives Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Marc Berman, Mike Gipson and Marc Levine- as well as business, environmental, and labor leaders visited UC Davis Chile last Monday, 19th. The 10 day Study Tour 2018 was organized by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (CFEE) and the purpose was to examine how Chile is devising and implementing energy, infrastructure, and water policies which jointly advance environmental and economic priorities.
