After 10 years, William “Bill” Tucker, Executive Director of Innovation Access at UC Davis, returned to Chile to participate in the III USM Tech Innovation Summit, event organized by the Santa Maria University (USM), academic partner of UC Davis Chile since December 2017. The Summit which was held last 20 November is the nation’s main event on artificial intelligence, new digital trends and scalable enterprises. Doctor Tucker’s expertise lies in this latter area.

California State Legislators visited UC Davis’ center in Chile

A delegation of California State Legislators –including senator Nancy Skinner and representatives Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Marc Berman, Mike Gipson and Marc Levine- as well as business, environmental, and labor leaders visited UC Davis Chile last Monday, 19th. The 10 day Study Tour 2018 was organized by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (CFEE) and the purpose was to examine how Chile is devising and implementing energy, infrastructure, and water policies which jointly advance environmental and economic priorities.

Celebrating the National Day of Wine, UC Davis Chile, center of international excellence funded by CORFO and dependent on the University of California Davis, in alliance with Universidad Andrés Bello (UNAB) and companies Víña Concha y Toro and VSPT Wine Group, announced important advances in the execution of the genetic identification project of grape clones of the most relevant varieties for the wine industry in Chile: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Zero Waste project seeks to eliminate micro trash dumps and construct a rain garden at an at-risk elementary school in Conchalí, Santiago Chile

Two invasive trash dumps surround Conchalí’s elementary school “Sol Naciente”. For years the municipality has tried to eradicate them, but the garbage that is removed from the sector soon returns. "We have an environment that is extremely damaged and it's hard for us to come study," says Sofía Vega, a 5th grade Sol Naciente student. Eventually, the director of the school, Amaranta Arenas, approached the University of California, Davis in Chile (UC Davis Chile) to see how they could help solve this problem.

Keeping fruits and vegetables free of fungi which deteriorate these products without affecting its quality or its safe production are the main characteristics of Fungifree AB®. In this way the use of this bioproduct would facilitate the exportation of fruits and vegetables to countries where the use of pesticides is strictly regulated.
