FONTAGRO Symposium: International experts discuss the best strategies for family farmers facing climate change.

"Cooperation is essential, Chile and UC Davis have had a very close relationship for many years. Now, the presence of UC Davis in Chile gives us another opportunity to further strengthen these ties," said Dr. Julio Kalazich, National Director of Agricultural Research Institute of Chile (INIA) in the symposium "Adapting to Climate Change Family Agriculture”. This event was organized by the Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) and co-organized by INIA .

Strategic Food Program visits UC Davis Chile

Gonzalo Jordan, Chairman of CORFO´s Strategic Food Program (PEA); Graciela Urrutia, manager of PEA and Claudia Saavedra, executive of PEA, attended UC Davis Chile´s unit to present in detail the scope of this initiative. The PEA, like others Strategic Programs in mining, tourism, construction, creative industry, aquaculture and fishing, seek to generate a more productive and globally competitive industry through a more diversified and sophisticated economy. In the specific case of this food program, a modernized agricultural business with more added value.

UC Davis Chile holds meetings with The Blueberry Committee of Chile

Product of a collaboration among the Ministry of Agriculture, the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters (Asoex) and ProChile, surged the trademark Fruits From Chile to unify in communicational terms the fruit exporters and strengthen its presence in international markets, building together one country brand. In addition, specific brands were created for each of the sectors (fruits), including Blueberries from Chile and its respective Chilean Blueberry Committee, to represent producers and exporters of national blueberries and strengthen this industry abroad.

On Friday July 3, Dr. Dario Cantu, Professor of the department of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California Davis, starred in the first activity of "Encounters, Science and Industry". This series of talks organized by UC Davis Chile, seeks to create spaces where research with high potential or that is currently impacting the productive sector can meet. UC Davis Chile has three academic partners- the Universities of Tarapaca; Andrés Bello (UNAB); and Talca and two business: the Group VSPT Concha y Toro.
