UC Davis Chile participates in innovation and scientific enterprise fair, "Open Science"

On Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th of November, the Bustamante Park in Providencia Santiago was the stage of the first scientific innovation and entrepreneurship fair, "OpenScience." The initiative, which counted on the support of the Municipality of Providencia, was led by Santiago LabSpace, an entrepreneurship and innovation platform which, together with Chile UC Davis, is part of the "Research to Business Catalyst" (R2B Catalyst).

Alliance between UC Davis Chile and STGO LabSpace: R2B Catalyst, first scientific Hub devoted for business development

The University of California, Davis in Chile ( UC Davis Chile) and STGO LabSpace joined forces to create "Research to Business Catalyst" ( R2B Catalyst ), the first Hub that aims to support the development of scientific and technological products that are "Made in Chile " and its effective position in the market. The company will have a number of centers in Santiago and the south of the country. Its headquarters, UC Davis LabSpace, will begin operations in early 2016 .

UC Davis is preparing to once again hosts the Chile-California Conference C3

On Saturday October 17th, UC Davis again welcomes the Chilean graduate students from UC Berkeley, Stanford and of course, their own representatives for the fourth version of the Chile-California Conference. Since 2012, these three schools take turns hosting the new generation of Chilean researchers being formed in California; first it was UC Davis, followed by UC Berkley and last year, Stanford. UC Davis itself has 60 Chileans who are either pursuing a masters, doctorate or post-doctorate degree or have positions as researchers or teachers in this university . 

A workshop on Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer at Concha y Toro´s Research and Innovation Center

How do we achieve that laboratory work impact on the productive sector? Two concepts are key: technology transfer and intellectual property. For that reason, Dr. Mónica Alandete-Sáez, Director of Analysis and Extension at PIPRA, led the workshop "Intellectual Property Management and Innovation" for 15 Concha y Toro workers. To the activity attended staff from the Center for Research and Innovation - led by its director, Gerard Casaubon- and from the legal team.

UC Davis Chile and UDD advance in the formation of intellectual property and technology transfer

On Wednesday, August 19th, Dr. Alan Bennett, Executive Director of University of California Davis in Chile (UC Davis Chile) -a program from UC Davis (USA) currently in Chile-, met with Federico Valdés, the Chancellor of Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD), to begin defining areas where the two institutions will work together. One of the main topics will be human capital training in intellectual property and technology transfer, areas in which both institutions have a long tradition and prestige.

Union of extra virgin olive oil producers visits UC Davis Chile

In Chile, the industry of extra virgin olive oil is young. Despite the history of Spaniards arriving in our country with olive trees, our country preferred to produce for domestic consumption. Only 400 years later, in 1952, the family Canepa -now TerraMater- incorporated technology for mass production of olive oil. The launch of the industry began in the late 90s, and given the timeless focus that has been on the production of extra virgin olive oil (of the best quality), this industry has grown in notable steps, receiving multiple awards internationally.

Gonzalo Jordan, Chairman of CORFO´s Strategic Food Program (PEA); Graciela Urrutia, manager of PEA and Claudia Saavedra, executive of PEA, attended UC Davis Chile´s unit to present in detail the scope of this initiative. The PEA, like others Strategic Programs in mining, tourism, construction, creative industry, aquaculture and fishing, seek to generate a more productive and globally competitive industry through a more diversified and sophisticated economy. In the specific case of this food program, a modernized agricultural business with more added value.

"Cooperation is essential, Chile and UC Davis have had a very close relationship for many years. Now, the presence of UC Davis in Chile gives us another opportunity to further strengthen these ties," said Dr. Julio Kalazich, National Director of Agricultural Research Institute of Chile (INIA) in the symposium "Adapting to Climate Change Family Agriculture”. This event was organized by the Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) and co-organized by INIA .

UC Davis Chile holds meetings with The Blueberry Committee of Chile

Product of a collaboration among the Ministry of Agriculture, the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters (Asoex) and ProChile, surged the trademark Fruits From Chile to unify in communicational terms the fruit exporters and strengthen its presence in international markets, building together one country brand. In addition, specific brands were created for each of the sectors (fruits), including Blueberries from Chile and its respective Chilean Blueberry Committee, to represent producers and exporters of national blueberries and strengthen this industry abroad.
