UC Davis Chile Life Sciences Innovation Center

This past Thursday, December 3rd, Dr. Alan Bennett, Executive Director of UC Davis Chile, participated in the 2nd SaaS Generation Seminar. The event is co-financed by CORFO and organized by GECHS Software and AG Services

On Saturday October 17th, UC Davis again welcomes the Chilean graduate students from UC Berkeley, Stanford and of course, their own representatives for the fourth version of the Chile-California Conference. Since 2012, these three schools take turns hosting the new generation of Chilean researchers being formed in California; first it was UC Davis, followed by UC Berkley and last year, Stanford. UC Davis itself has 60 Chileans who are either pursuing a masters, doctorate or post-doctorate degree or have positions as researchers or teachers in this university .

How do we achieve that laboratory work impact on the productive sector? Two concepts are key: technology transfer and intellectual property. For that reason, Dr. Mónica Alandete-Sáez, Director of Analysis and Extension at PIPRA, led the workshop "Intellectual Property Management and Innovation" for 15 Concha y Toro workers. To the activity attended staff from the Center for Research and Innovation - led by its director, Gerard Casaubon- and from the legal team.

“Science-based innovation is built upon research and discovery. However, the technological discovery is not the innovation itself, but requires ' translation'," says Dr. Alan Bennett, Executive Director of the University of California-Davis in Chile (UC Davis Chile). Because of this, in 2011 PIPRA (Public Intellectual Property Resource for Agriculture), an institution co-founded by Dr. Bennett, in conjunction with the School of Law at UC Davis began to offer the “Licensing Academy: Intellectual Property and Technology Commercialization”™ , a tool to achieve this ‘translation’.
