Did you know that to produce a gallon of wine, 46 gallons of water are needed? An objective of UC Davis researchers is to reduce this proportion while keeping the wine’s quality, a point especially important for California and its prolonged drought. CBS Sacramento broadcasted “UC Davis Researchers Work To Slash Water Usage By California Vineyards”. 

During the news report, Dr. David Block, professor of the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis, explained their development of a system that uses the collected rainwater to remotely water, with the exact amount of liquid, each varying vine. Researchers are also developing technology for re-using the water consumed by the systems “Clean-in-place” (CIP), that cleans the fermentation tanks.
