Event Date
Join us for the talk and panel “Towards Resilient Spaces: Research on Lighting, Comfort, and Sustainable Design”, taking place on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 11:00 to 12:30 hrs at the UdeC Santiago office (Marchant Pereira 10, 3rd floor, Providencia).
This seminar will explore cutting-edge innovations in lighting, comfort, and sustainable design, showing how research and new practices are transforming spaces into healthier, more resilient, and energy-efficient environments. The program will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Jae Yong Suk, Director of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), UC Davis, who will share California’s experience in advancing lighting policies and regulations, highlighting improvements, challenges, and lessons learned. In addition, Dr. Andrea Martínez, Associate Professor and Principal Investigator at the Vital Signs Lab, at the University of Concepción, will present her research on lighting performance in schools, addressing how classroom retrofitting and design innovations can enhance comfort and learning outcomes.
The seminar will conclude with a dynamic panel discussion focused on two central themes: public policies and international experiences in lighting—advances in Chile and lessons from California—and collaboration strategies for innovation, exploring how academia, industry, and professional associations can work together to strengthen R&D+i in lighting.
The panel will bring together outstanding voices in the field, including Ximena Muñoz, Executive Director of Fundación Ciluz and President of API Chile, a leading advocate for sustainable lighting standards and policy; and Paulina Villalobos, Board Member of DarkSky International Association (USA), Core Member of the Tantendian Lighting Detectives (Japan), Advisory Board Member of the Zoo Lighting Institute (USA), Ambassador for Women in Lighting Chile, and Director of the Regulatory Committee at API Chile. She is also founder of Noche Zero and an architect with a Master in Architectural Lighting Design (Germany), widely recognized for her pioneering work on sustainable lighting and urban nightscapes. They will be joined by Dr. Jae Yong Suk and Dr. Andrea Martínez, adding their perspectives as keynote speakers to the conversation.
